As announced Montenegrin daily "News " Russia asked permission from Montenegro to open its base in Bar , that would be logistical support for its naval fleet at sea but Podgorica refused this request .
Citing sources in the Montenegrin government , "News " stated that Montenegro sent a negative response to a request from Russia , which is not certain they will be able to retain its naval base in the port of Tartus in Syria .
Syrian port has a strategic interest for Russia , because lets be present in the Mediterranean . Given the conflict in this country and the possibility of the conditions for its solution to be out of Russians from Tartus , Moscow chosen as an alternative bar , because all other countries in the region " are either NATO or under the influence of the West."
The Montenegrin government has long been considered the answer for Russians , and one of the fiercest opponents of the agreement with Moscow was Defence Minister Milica Pejanovic - Djurisic , the newspaper reported .
