Dutch Parliament has voted against the government's proposal for granting candidate status for EU membership in Albania by preventing the adoption of the decision at a summit in Brussels on 19-20 December.
Dutch Parliament yesterday approved a decision obliging the government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte to oppose the proposal of the European Commission to Albania .
This development is expected to blow up the country's hopes for the integration of the Western Balkans , which according to EC has met the required conditions and should be given the status of candidate country .
A spokesman of the Dutch parliament , has said " EurActiv " of Rutte VVD Party voted against opening the doors of the EU for Albania and its coalition partners have voted .
All decisions relating to EU enlargement are taken by unanimous vote . This means that Albania has lost the chance to become a candidate country in December 19-20 summit , unlike than expected .
Holland was an obstacle and granting candidate status to Serbia . This place also has opposed the inclusion in the Schengen area to Bulgaria and Romania unlike the EC opinion stating that countries have met all the conditions required .
This development is expected to enrage the European Parliament . MEP Croatian Nikola VuljaniƧ reporter for Albania , yesterday stressed that the Council of the EU should make Albania officially a candidate country for EU membership without delay to support its progress with reforms .
